The History of
LASAM CHRISTIAN BAPTIST CHURCH

In 1999, four Christian women working as Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Hong Kong returned home for vacation. Burdened with a deep spiritual conviction, they felt led to establish a mission work in Lasam, Cagayan. Following this calling, they sought out a Baptist minister and connected with Pastor Remigio Requizo, who was then leading a church in Aparri—about a ninety-minute drive from Lasam.
After hearing their vision, Pastor Remigio immediately committed to the mission. He began traveling to Lasam once or twice a week to conduct home Bible studies and evangelistic outreach. Many other pastors and Bible college students also contributed to the ministry’s growth. In August 2002, Pastor Rogelio Requiso and his family officially moved to Lasam to serve as full-time lead Pastor.
That same year, Dr. Richard Bitun—President of the Bible College from which Pastor Rogelio graduated—officiated the church’s formal installation service, attended by several local pastors and their congregations.
The early years were marked by trials and perseverance. For the first decade, the congregation met in rented houses, relocating five times due to various circumstances. Yet God remained faithful. In time, the church acquired its own parcel of land, paid for in installments over three years. As the land was secured, the congregation began the labor of love to construct a permanent house of worship.
Through years of faithful Gospel preaching, the Lord has richly blessed this ministry, continually adding to the church those who are being saved. Despite many challenges and hardships, the Lord has proven steadfast in His faithfulness. Truly, to God be all the glory.
